Keeping the kids entertained in Las Vegas?

Las Vegas Resorts are doing what they can to make the Vegas experience enjoyable for families.  Children may "pass through" the casinos, but only when accompanied by an adult.  Las Vegas has (and readily enforces) a curfew for anyone under the age of 18.  In general (although it varies slightly by day of the week) children under the age of 18 MUST BE off the streets by 9pm.

Vegas is and always will be an Adult Playground - it's simply become more accommodating to families as evidenced by these quotes from the Las Vegas Review Journal:
bullet

"Our attempt at being hospitable to everyone has been interpreted as our desire for people to bring their children, and that's not the case," - Alan Feldman, spokesman for MGM Mirage.

bullet

"There are things for people of all ages to do, but we're not marketing to teens. You should never get Las Vegas mixed up with Disneyland." - Alan Feldman, spokesman for MGM Mirage.

bullet

"Certainly, Las Vegas has become more of a family destination, but it's a fact of what the destination has become that people can find plenty of things to do," said Richelle Thomson, spokeswoman for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. "We're not directly marketing Las Vegas to children."

Notes:  Although some events are free be prepared to spend at least $25 per child per day to enjoy most activities.

We do NOT list every single attraction as most are housed within the "Fun" centers at the links below.  For example:  Circus Circus Adventure dome contains several attractions and once there you will want to try several.  We are not however a fan of the accommodations at this Hotel and think you can do much better for the money.

Destination Guide

Destination Las Vegas!  Are facts and figures up your alley?  You enjoy reading the "details"?  Want to know about "things" not typically discussed on most Vegas sites?  Boring but important facts like buses, monorail, taxi and shuttle costs, shopping outlets, etc.  This isn't kids stuff, but it may help you plan your trip.  Information is complied and updated by our partner travel services company.  Enjoy, then come on back and figure out what to do with your children for fun!

Lion Habitat at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino

Real lions near the entertainment dome can be viewed daily during the hours your children would normally be awake.  I love this attraction - although the lions spend most of their time sleeping.  It's FREE and will hold their interest for at least half an hour.  There is even a glass enclosed pathway where you can usually walk directly under one of the slumbering giant cats!

Adventures Theme Park at the MGM Grand

After visiting the Lion Habitat head on over to the 33 acre amusement complex.  Another "must visit" for the kids.

Check Below for up-to-date deals:

Wave pool and river ride at Mandalay Bay

Families can enjoy waves up to 6 feet high, or take a lazy river ride through the resort's 11 acre tropical water environment.  Further enjoyment may be found on the sandy beach, three swimming pools or jogging track.  Check with the Hotel to find out when guests are allowed to surf and boogie board.

Star Trek:  The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton

The Star Trek Experience has been around awhile but the new "Borg Invasion 4D" experience opens March 18th.  I saw a blip on a late night entertainment show and this promises to be pretty exciting for Trekkies.

Join us at 12:01am on March 18, 2004 and be amongst the first to encounter Borg Invasion 4-D at Star Trek the Experience, located at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Star Trek the Experience is pleased to announce the “Grand Opening” party of its newest attraction. A limited number of guests will be among the first to be assimilated!

The party includes unlimited access to the attraction for three hours, dining, drinks and dancing plus a commemorative picture and a limited edition Borg Invasion 4-D t-shirt.

Trekkies will love the ride and exhibits devoted to the Star Trek TV Series.

Paris Landmarks - Paris Las Vegas Casino Resort Hotel

Browse replicas of famous French Landmarks, including the Arc De Triomphe and the Hotel de Ville, as well as facades of the Paris Opera House and The Louvre.  The 50 foot half scale Eiffel Tower has a glass elevator where you may ride to the top for a Spectacular View of the strip or enjoy lunch on the 11th floor restaurant.

Adventure Dome at Circus Circus

Sixteen rides and attractions, including the double-loop, double-corkscrew "Canyon Blaster" roller coaster.  Probably the best known kids arcade and entertainment center on the strip.

The Auto Collection at the Imperial Palace

Located on the fifth floor parking facility (Visit imperialpalace.com to print out your free coupon good for 6 people).  Older children and parents alike will enjoy this free attraction featuring antique, classic, muscle and special interest automobiles.

MAX theater at the Luxor

The Luxor Hotel and Casino boasts standard IMAX and IMAX 3-D theaters (with a 7 story screen and 30,000 watt sound system), the Tut Museum with simulated artifacts from King Tut's tomb, and the "Search for the Lost Obelisk" motion-simulator ride.  The gamers in your family will want to spend some time in the "Games of the gods Arcade - a high tech entertainment center with some of the best arcade games in Vegas!  Plan on spending at least an afternoon here!

Call 1-800-557-7428 for show times and ticket prices.

Coney Island Emporium:  New York - New York

Midway games, rides and high-tech amusements fill this 28,000 sq foot complex.

Manhattan Express Rollercoaster:  New York - New York

With heights of 203 feet, drops of 144 feet and speeds up to 67 MPH, this attraction adds new meaning to the phrase "let it ride!" It features the world's first "heartline" twist and dive maneuver, allowing riders to experience the thrilling force of negative g's! Simulating a barrel-roll in a jet fighter, it rolls 180 degrees, hangs 86 feet in the air, then dives back under itself- promising dizzying excitement and white-knuckle thrills!
